Frequently asked questions

How is WPM calculated?

WPM counts only correctly typed characters. Every 5 correct characters count as one word, and the total is divided by the minutes you typed. Raw speed counts all typed characters, including mistakes.

What is a good typing speed?

Roughly, 40 WPM is average, 60 WPM is good and 80 WPM or more is fast. Accuracy matters as much as speed, because fixing mistakes slows you down.

How can I type faster?

Look at the screen instead of the keys, use all ten fingers, and practise a few minutes every day. Build accuracy first and speed will follow.

Is my result saved?

Your personal best is stored only in your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Can I practise with my own text?

Yes. Choose "My own text", paste or type what you want to practise, and press Use this text.
